Photo album of the 1926 journey to the Arctic undertaken by Louise Arner Boyd and her crew on the M.S. Hobby. Contains images of the ship, including close-up views of its deck and rigging; portraits of Boyd, several show her with rifle, standing next to dead polar bears and seals; crew members dragging a dead polar bear through the ice toward the ship; living polar bear cubs tethered to ropes alongside the ship; men pulling cubs up onto the ship's deck; men skinning bears; and bear carcasses hanging from rigging. Includes images of the surrounding landscape, including icebergs, ice flows, and an island(s?). Two photos show a woman, other than Boyd, on deck. Two loose photos include one that is unidentifiable and one of a grave marker . The postcard, written on by "Otis" about his stay in Munich, is dated July 23 (no year).

Louise Arner Boyd (b. September 16, 1887, San Rafael, California-d. September 14, 1972, San Francisco, California) was a geographer, big game hunter, patroness of the arts, and leader of eight expeditions into polar regions, including several to Greenland. In 1955 she flew over the North Pole to take photographs for the American Geographical Society. She held honorary degrees from the Universities of Alaska and California and from Mills College. ...
